Liverpool FC forward Dirk Kuyt has been ruled out for four weeks with a shoulder injury picked up on international duty with the Netherlands.
The 30-year-old returned to Merseyside early to be examined by Liverpool's medical team, with club doctor Peter Brukner confirming the full extent of the problem: "Dirk has damaged his shoulder at the AC joint, which is between the collarbone and the shoulder. He is likely to be out for four weeks."
Kuyt reportedly sustained the injury when falling awkwardly during training with the Oranje. The former Feyenoord player opened the scoring for the Netherlands in their 5-0 win against San Marino in UEFA EURO 2012 qualifying on Saturday.
He will miss Liverpool's UEFA Europa League home tie against FC Steaua Bucureşti and the visit to FC Utrecht, where Kuyt spent the first five seasons of his professional career.
