Club Atlético de Madrid have replaced the Real Zaragoza-bound Peter Luccin with Brazilian international midfielder Thiago Motta, who arrives on a one-year contract from FC Barcelona.
Barça success
The 25-year-old, whose two Brazil caps came in July 2003, becomes the Spanish club's ninth summer signing and will join his new team-mates in training this afternoon having passed a medical earlier in the day. Motta began his career in Barcelona's youth department before stepping up to the first team in 2001/02, going on to score six goals in 96 Primera División games and help the Catalans to two league titles. He was an unused substitute in the 2005/06 UEFA Champions League final win against Arsenal FC. Atlético will play Turkey's Kayseri Erciyesspor in the UEFA Cup first round following today's draw in Monaco.
