Heading home
The Player of the Tournament at UEFA EURO 2004™ will arrive in Thessaloniki on Thursday to sign the deal with PAOK. The midfielder was released by Bologna FC on Tuesday following the Italian team's relegation from Serie A, and rejoins one of his old clubs.
PAOK successes
The 33-year-old began his professional career with FC Kavala in 1988, moving to PAOK during the 1992/93 campaign. During five seasons with the club he became a firm favourite with supporters, before switching to English side Leicester City FC in 1998.
Greek glory
Zagorakis returned to Greece in 2000 to sign for AEK Athens FC, and when Otto Rehhagel took charge of the national team in 2001, the coach made the defensive midfielder the fulcrum of his squad. Greece went on to win EURO 2004™ in dramatic style in Portugal last summer. It was on the back of that triumph that Zagorakis headed to Italy for a solitary campaign with Bologna.
