Thursday's third qualifying round results

Facing a 4-2 deficit in the second leg, Hajduk Split defeated FC Shakhter Karagandy 3-0 in Croatia to complete an unlikely turnaround while Petrolul impressed with a 4-1 win at FC Viktoria Plzeň to take the tie 5-2 on aggregate. Pablo Mazza was the hero for Asteras, scoring twice – his second four minutes from time – to help the Greek side win 3-1 on the night against the Bundesliga's 1. FSV Mainz 05 to overturn a 1-0 first-leg deficit.

There was plenty more late drama, most notably in the tie between Esbjerg fB and Ruch Chorzów, as the Polish side scored in the 95th minute to earn a 2-2 draw in Denmark to progress on away goals. Molde FK's Vegard Forren suffered a miserable evening, missing a penalty in the 87th minute before scoring an own goal two minutes later to give FC Zorya Luhansk a 2-1 win on the night and a 3-2 success on aggregate.

Stjarnan survive
There were no such scares for FC Krasnodar who completed an 8-1 aggregate result against Diósgyőri VTK with a 3-0 win, a result matched by FC Astana who wrapped up their contest against AIK with ease in Sweden. Meanwhile the lowest ranked side in the competition – Iceland's Stjarnan, who started out in the first qualifying round in their first European campaign – earned a 0-0 result at KKS Lech Poznań to go through 1-0 on aggregate.

PSV progress
PSV Eindhoven were pushed all the way but won 3-2 in Austria against SKN St Pölten to confirm passage while FC Dinamo Minsk backed up their impressive first-leg success against CFR 1907 Cluj with a 2-0 win in Romania.

Club Brugge KV and Torino FC carried over their form from last week, easily winning their second legs to progress to the play-offs where they will be joined by Olympique Lyonnais who negotiated their way past FK Mladá Boleslav, a 2-1 win complimenting last week's 4-1 victory.

Hull City suffered a scare as they fell behind early at home against AS Trencín but responded to win the game and the tie 2-1, and Real Sociedad de Fútbol are also through after a 3-2 win at Aberdeen FC.
