Europa League matchday two: facts and figures

• There have been no Serie A sides in any of the five UEFA Europa League finals to date, but the early signs this season are of an Italian renaissance, with all four of the country's representatives – SSC Napoli, ACF Fiorentina, FC Internazionale Milano and Torino FC – winning without conceding a goal on matchday two. In fact, the Italian contingent are collectively unbeaten in the current group stage, posting seven wins and a draw between them. Their combined goal difference is 15 for and just one against.

• Torino's 1-0 home victory over FC København was secured with a late Fabio Quagliarella penalty. It was not only the last goal of the matchday, but also the 2,800th in the UEFA Europa League and the 200th for an Italian club. Those 2,800 goals, group stage to final, have come in 1,073 matches, an average of just over 2.6 per game.

• Two players took their all-time UEFA Europa League goal tallies into double figures on matchday two. FC Steaua Bucureşti's Raul Rusescu and FC Salzburg's Jonatan Soriano both now have ten for the competition, becoming the 12th and 13th players respectively to reach that number. They have a long way to go, however, to equal the tournament's all-time leading marksman, Radamel Falcao, who has scored 30.

• Soriano's goal was Salzburg's 50th in the competition. Also on the same number are Tottenham Hotspur FC, thanks to Harry Kane's strike at home to Beşiktaş JK. Only six other teams have achieved the half-century, with SL Benfica leading the way on 68 goals.

• Though matchday one proved a tough night for this term's 14 group stage debutants, with just one of them, FC Dinamo Moskva, recording a victory, matchday two was more fruitful. While Dinamo registered another three points, at home to PSV Eindhoven, there were first wins in the competition for six other newcomers – Torino, Asteras Tripolis FC, Feyenoord, Aalborg BK, EA Guingamp and KSC Lokeren OV.

• There was also a first group stage triumph – at the eighth attempt – for Estoril Praia, but the wait for a first three-pointer goes on for HNK Rijeka and ŠK Slovan Bratislava. Should either fail to win on matchday three, they will match the longest sequence without a first success, shared by Steaua and PFC CSKA Sofia, both of whom had to wait until their tenth game before breaking their duck.

• Both English representatives drew 1-1 on matchday two. For Tottenham it was their 11th draw in the UEFA Europa League, one shy of SS Lazio's record, while for Everton FC it was the first time they had shared the honours in ten matches, having won five and lost four of the other nine.

• Steaua's 3-1 defeat at FC Dynamo Kyiv means the Romanian club have now conceded 47 times in the UEFA Europa League. Only SK Rapid Wien (50) have let in more goals.

• Villarreal CF's 4-0 stroll against Apollon Limassol FC was their eighth consecutive home victory in the UEFA Europa League. Should they prevail in their remaining two group fixtures at El Madrigal, they will equal the all-time competition record of ten, held jointly by Club Atlético de Madrid and Benfica.

• Fiorentina and Salzburg both avoided defeat away from home for the sixth game in a row on matchday two – three short of PAOK FC's tournament record. The Italian outfit have yet to lose a UEFA Europa League match on their travels, winning four and drawing two.
