SS Lazio will be without Miroslav Klose for next Thursday's UEFA Europa League visit to Trabzonspor AŞ after the Germany striker underwent surgery on his foot in Munich.

"He has played despite this problem for about a month," club doctor Stefano Salvatori explained. "He had an inflamed nerve in his right foot and a small operation was required because his condition was getting worse. He should be able to resume playing in about 15 days."

The 35-year-old Klose equalled Germany's all-time scoring record earlier this month when he joined Gerd Müller on 68 goals in the 3-0 Group C win over Austria, but he could now miss his nation's remaining FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Republic of Ireland and Sweden on 11 and 15 October respectively.

Lazio started their UEFA Europa League Group J campaign with a 1-0 home victory over Legia Warszawa last week while Trabzonspor won 2-1 at Apollon Limassol FC.
