Indeed, Taison's strike for Metalist against Rosenborg BK is one that will live long in the memory of anyone who was in north-east Ukraine that Thursday evening in November 2012. Just four minutes had elapsed when Fininho delivered a seemingly harmless cross from deep on the left, but Taison needed no second invitation to fire in a first-time right-footed volley which had more than a shade of Marco van Basten in 1988 about it.
"It was a very beautiful goal," Taison recalled. "I thank God for the goal I scored – it will be there for the rest of my life. When the ball came I thought: 'I'm going to shoot.' I didn't know if the ball would go into the stands or if it would go in ... when it went towards the goal like that, I couldn't believe it.
"I looked up and saw it had gone in. I was startled at that moment because of the goal, but it was real happiness. The truth is that it could happen to any player, but the technique of the player also influences a lot. Also your team-mates, the player who passed me the ball – I can't forget about him. You also need some luck when you hit a beautiful shot like that."
