With an eerie sense of deja vu, the 2012 UEFA Europa League final ended much the same as the 2011 edition, with Falcao attracting the glare of the photographers as he celebrated with the trophy. Twelve months ago it was FC Porto, but this was Club Atlético de Madrid's year.
We look back at the event in Bucharest, from the pre-match hopes and expectations of Atlético boss Diego Simeone, Athletic Club counterpart Marcelo Bielsa and referee Wolfgang Stark, to the anticipation among the 20,000 plus fans who travelled from Spain. Then there is the main event, when two Falcao goals set Atlético on course for a 3-0 victory. Diego wrapped things up, but it was his Colombian who shone brightest – it is only right we end with his thoughts.
