Two-time UEFA Cup winners Sevilla FC will begin their campaign to get their hands back on the trophy against FK Mladost Podgorica or FK Senica, after the draw for the UEFA Europa League third qualifying round was made in Nyon on Friday.
The 2006 and 2007 winners were not the only big names involved, with 1990/91 European Champion Clubs' Cup victors Crvena Zvezda drawn to face FC Chornomorets Odesa or FC Dacia Chisinau should they overcome ÍBV Vestmannaeyjar in the second qualifying round.
Italy's Udinese Calcio, group stage competitors for the last two seasons, will play FC Irtysh Pavlodar or NK Široki Brijeg while VfB Stuttgart will aim to better last term's run to the round of 16 when they start against HŠK Zrinjski or PFC Botev Plovdiv.
English League Cup winners Swansea City AFC make their European bow with an intriguing-looking tie against Malmö FF or Hibernian FC, with the Swedes leading the second round encounter 2-0 at the halfway mark. AS Saint-Étienne return to European action after a four-year absence and must negotiate FC Shakhtyor Soligorsk or FC Milsami Orhei to reach the play-off round.
Elsewhere, Vitesse of the Netherlands travel for their first leg to FC Petrolul Ploieşti or Víkingur, while Trabzonspor AŞ will meet FC Dinamo Minsk or NK Lokomotiva Zagreb if they get past Derry City FC, to repeat last year's play-off appearance.
The third qualifying round takes place over two legs on successive Thursdays, 1 and 8 August. The sides that progress will enter the draw for the play-offs on Friday 9 August. Also in the hat will be 18 teams joining the competition at that later stage, including Tottenham Hotspur FC, ACF Fiorentina and Feyenoord. The 15 UEFA Champions League third qualifying round losers also participate in the UEFA Europa League play-offs.
