UEFA Europa League holders Club Atlético de Madrid continue to strengthen ahead of the 2012/13 campaign, with Getafe CF centre-back Cata Díaz the latest player to arrive at the Estadio Vicente Calderón for a reported fee of €1m.
The 33-year-old former Argentinian international has agreed terms on a two-year deal with Diego Simeone's side. He scored two goals in 165 Liga appearances for Getafe after signing from CA Boca Juniors in 2007. Díaz joins fellow new faces Emre Belözoğlu – incoming from Fenerbahçe SK – and FC Porto winger Cristian Rodríguez at the Spanish capital club.
The Rojiblancos have also stated that midfielder Mario Suárez has reached an agreement to extend his stay in Madrid by a further four seasons until 2017.
Speaking after the announcement, the 25-year-old said: "My dream ever since I was a boy was to play for, and be successful with, Atlético de Madrid. For that reason I am delighted to be able to remain with the team I supported growing up." Atlético will start the defence of their UEFA Europa League title from the group stage next season.
