UEFA Europa League holders Club Atlético de Madrid have reached a deal with Chelsea FC for Belgian international goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, who will remain on loan at the Vicente Calderón for a second season.
The 20-year-old, a former Belgian goalkeeper of the year, was signed by Chelsea from KRC Genk last July and was promptly loaned to Los Rojiblancos. He missed only one of the team's Liga matches in 2011/12 and earned a UEFA Europa League winners' medal thanks to a 3-0 final defeat of Athletic Club in Bucharest.
Courtois rejoins an Atlético squad recently bolstered by the arrivals of midfield pair Emre Belözoğlu and Cristian Rodríguez and defender Cata Díaz. Diego Simeone's side will start their defence of the UEFA Europa League in the group stage.
