Though Plzeň – with ten men – and St-Étienne both came from two down to win their games, the most dramatic moment of the night came at Konyaspor. Gent were heading out until Souleymane Coulibaly brilliantly chested the ball down four minutes into added time and finished to send the Belgian side through at the expense of Braga.

Elsewhere, Enrico Chiesa's son Federico scored and was sent off as Fiorentina beat Qarabağ, Henrikh Mkhitaryan opened his Manchester United account in Odesa and Moussa Sow won Fenerbahçe all three points with another overhead kick.

Hapoel Beer-Sheva, meanwhile, qualified having been ranked 47 out of 48 in the group stage draw.
