Feyenoord v Fenerbahçe background

Both Feyenoord and Fenerbahçe harbour hopes of reaching the UEFA Europa League round of 32 going into their Group A denouement in Rotterdam.

• Leaders Fenerbahçe won 1-0 at home to Feyenoord and will be through with a point; they can also lose and qualify on head-to-head depending on the result between Zorya and Manchester United.

• Due to their defeat in Istanbul, third-placed Feyenoord need a two-goal victory to be assured of qualifying on head-to-head. A one-goal win would only be good enough for Feyenoord if United lose.

Previous meetings
• Emmanuel Emenike scored the only goal as Fenerbahçe beat Feyenoord 1-0 on matchday two.

• In the clubs' only previous encounters, Bert van Marwijk's Feyenoord – then UEFA Cup holders – made light work of Werner Lorant's Fenerbahçe in the 2002/03 UEFA Champions League third qualifying round. Shinji Ono got the lone goal of the first leg, and was on target again in Istanbul along with Thomas Buffel as the Dutch side completed a 3-0 aggregate success.

The coaches
• Giovanni van Bronckhorst led Feyenoord to Dutch Cup glory last term, his first in charge of his old club. As a player, the former Netherlands captain landed league titles with Rangers, Arsenal and Barcelona, scooping the 2005/06 UEFA Champions League with the Catalans.

• Dick Advocaat is in his first campaign with Fenerbahçe. The one-time Oranje coach has amassed domestic championships in the Netherlands (with PSV), Scotland (Rangers) and Russia (Zenit), having also guided Zenit to glory in the 2007/08 UEFA Cup.

• Advocaat was Van Bronckhorst's coach at Rangers from 1998–2001, during which time the club won two Scottish doubles, and was also his boss with the Netherlands from 2002–04.

Chapecoense commemoration
Teams taking part in all of the matchday six UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League fixtures will observe a minute's silence to pay respect to the victims of last week's air disaster involving the Chapecoense team and accompanying delegation.

The Brazilian club lost most of their players and coaching staff in the accident, which occurred in Colombia, where Chapecoense were due to play the first leg of the Copa Sudamericana final against Atlético Nacional.

"European football is united in expressing its deepest sympathy to Chapecoense, the Brazilian Football Confederation [CBF], CONMEBOL and the families of all the victims," said UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin. "This tragedy has shaken the world of football, and we would like to send our support to all of those affected by it."
