Zlatan Ibrahimović struck two goals to help Manchester United bounce back from UEFA Europa League disappointment on Thursday, but there was much less to smile about for Nice and Feyenoord.
United are down to third in Group A following their loss away to Fenerbahçe, yet they put that result behind them with a 3-1 success at Swansea, Ibrahimović helping himself to a pair of strikes after Paul Pogba's opener. The Swedish forward brought up his 400th club goal in the win, as well as the 25,000th in the Premier League era.
Fellow English group stage hopefuls Southampton lost 2-1 to Hull, meanwhile, and there was a defeat too for Nice in France. The Ligue 1 leaders went down 1-0 at Caen for their first league reverse this season, and it was a similar story for Feyenoord as the Eredivisie pacesetters lost their unbeaten record at Go Ahead Eagles.
There seems to be no stopping Schalke, in contrast, with the Royal Blues dispatching Bremen 3-1 to make it nine games without defeat in all competitions – having lost their first five Bundesliga fixtures. Elsewhere, Villarreal leapfrogged Atlético into third spot in Spain, Roma and Inter both prevailed 3-0 and Olympiacos saw off Panathinaikos by the same scoreline.
