Onuachu: Midtjylland's giant
"The miracle in Herning" is the headline on one Danish newspaper today after Midtjylland's stunning 2-1 victory against Manchester United. Paul Onuachu, in particular, receives special praise. The towering forward – he stands 2.01m tall – scored the decisive goal and gave Louis van Gaal's side a torrid time all night. While not always appearing the most elegant, the Nigerian gave a defence containing established internationals Chris Smalling and Daley Blind more than their fair share of problems. Midtjylland coach Jess Thorup has long hailed the 21-year-old's potential; against the three-time European champions he showed what he can do.

Food for thought
Jürgen Klopp was given a pretzel in his post-match press conference, but that was one of the few reasons for the Liverpool manager to smile on his return to Germany. "I'm not satisfied with the game," he said after the Reds' 0-0 draw against Augsburg. "I'm not 100% happy." With a week to prepare for the second leg at Anfield, the former Borussia Dortmund coach will be confident of qualification, although there were some familiar shortcomings in front of goal on show at the Augsburg Arena. "We scored six against Aston Villa in the league last week. Maybe we should have saved some for today," Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet told UEFA.com.

Glad to be back
Almost a year after making his last appearance for the club, Nuri Şahin was back on the field for Dortmund in the Schwarzgelben's 2-0 first-leg victory over Porto. The Turkish international, plagued by persistent knee problems during the last 12 months, produced a confident display in the centre of midfield to help his team secure a valuable lead going into Thursday's return match in Portugal. "Of course, it was a very special moment for me," Şahin said. "I really enjoyed it and we managed to dominate a Champions League calibre team from start to finish. That makes me proud."

Striking a balance
Tottenham and Fiorentina face similar dilemmas for their return leg after Thursday's 1-1 draw; they must balance domestic ambitions with their undoubted desire to progress in this competition. Both clubs are still well placed in their respective leagues, with Spurs just two points off the Premier League summit and Fiorentina pushing for UEFA Champions League qualification thanks to their current third place in Serie A. "I think with the players we've got in the whole squad, it gives us the ability to do that," said Dele Alli when asked how Spurs can cope with their packed fixture list and hopes to succeed on all fronts.
