'Nice record': Hestad delight at Molde first

Molde captain Daniel Hestad told UEFA.com that becoming the oldest scorer in UEFA Europa League history was a career high, the 40-year-old's coach Ole Gunnar Solksjær comparing the midfield "diesel engine" to his former Manchester United team-mate Ryan Giggs.

"This means a lot to me – it's a nice record to have," Hestad told UEFA.com after netting Molde's second in Thursday's 2-1 Group A win at Celtic – a result which confirms their place in the round of 32. "I am from Molde; I have played there all my life and I have such a strong feeling for this small club and city. For us to shock Europe like this is an amazing feeling and the highlight of my career.

"We are humble. We know our weaknesses and our strengths. Of course, it is an honour to be compared to Ryan Giggs, another player who played until he was 40."

Speaking to UEFA.com in Glasgow, Solksjær said of Hestad: "He reminds me in many ways of Giggs. It's the way he prepares for games, the way he's evolved his game, the way he's looked after himself and of course, he's a like a diesel engine – he starts slow and then goes quicker and quicker and quicker.

"Tonight he was outstanding again. It's so important for us to have him organising everyone, calming everyone down, getting on the ball. He played for Molde two years before I made my debut and that says everything about the great career he's enjoyed. It's an unbelievable story."
