FC Girondins de Bordeaux will look to spruce up their record against English clubs as they meet Liverpool FC again, in UEFA Europa League Group B.

Previous meetings
• Under Brazilian coach Ricardo Gomes, Bordeaux met Liverpool in the 2006/07 UEFA Champions League group stage; Rafael Benítez's Reds won 1-0 in Bordeaux and 3-0 at Anfield.

• The teams for the last meeting in France on 18 October 2006 were:
Bordeaux: Ramé, Henrique, Fernando, Jurietti, Laslandes (Faubert 63), Alejandro Alonso (Chamakh 63), Darcheville (Edixon Perea 71), Jemmali, Micoud, Wendel, Mavuba.
Liverpool: Reina, Finnan, Hyypiä, Riise, Luis García, Mark González (Sissoko 68), Xabi Alonso, Crouch (Kuyt 65), Bellamy (Warnock 87), Carragher, Zenden.

• Bordeaux have won only one of their ten games against English clubs (W1 D2 L7 - W1 D2 L2 at home), Newcastle United FC beaten 2-0 in the most recent of those encounters, in December 2012.

• Liverpool's record in 13 games in France is W5 D1 L7.

Form guide
• Bordeaux have won both of their European home games this season without conceding.

• Liverpool are without a win in five European away games (D1 L4), failing to score in all four of those defeats.

• Bordeaux made it through to the round of 32 in their first two UEFA Cup and UEFA Europa League group stage campaigns, but missed the cut in their most recent appearance, in 2013/14.

• Liverpool made it through to the knockout phase in both of their previous UEFA Europa League group stage campaigns – in 2010/11 and 2012/13.

Trivia and links
• The journey from Liverpool to Bordeaux is a little under 1,000km.

• This is Liverpool's first UEFA competition game since the departure of long-term captain Steven Gerrard.

• Liverpool boast French talent in the form of former Paris Saint-Germain centre-back Mamadou Sakho. Sakho and Bordeaux's Clément Chantôme were PSG team-mates.

• The Reds' Divock Origi (LOSC Lille) and Dejan Lovren (Olympique Lyonnais) also have Ligue 1 experience.

• Bordeaux goalkeeper Cédric Carrasso played his first competitive club game in England, coming on at the break for Crystal Palace FC in a 0-0 draw against Birmingham City FC in an April 2002 second tier game. It was the only game of his loan spell in England, and he is the only Bordeaux player with English pedigree.

The coaches
• Liverpool manager since 2012, Northern Irishman Brendan Rodgers established his reputation as a youth coach, notably at Chelsea FC, before successfully striking out alone at Swansea City FC, where he won promotion to the Premier League in 2011.

• Bordeaux's Willy Sagnol took charge in 2014 after a spell as France Under-21 coach. The 38-year-old shone as a right-back, winning a French title with AS Monaco FC before heading to Germany, where he won five titles and the 2000/01 UEFA Champions League with FC Bayern München.
