Second leg takes place in Italy on Thursday

Serhiy Rebrov, Dynamo Kyiv coach
It was a hard game as always in the Europa League knockout stage. It's a pity we conceded in the final minutes but I think the result is fair. Our players are very disappointed, of course, but nothing decisive happened as we have a second match ahead and we still can win a ticket to semi-finals.

We tried to play compact in midfield where Fiorentina build up their attacks. It was a difficult task but overall we coped with it in the first half. After the break it was much harder, and we felt we lacked experience of big matches as we have only a few of them in the Ukrainian league.

Sometimes you do have difficult matches and tonight it was the case. Fiorentina are very strong opponents and they have proved that they have good qualities. We had a few good counterattacks and I think if we had played a bit better we could have scored one more. At the end we wanted to defend the 1-0 but unfortunately they scored.

We analysed them well and we knew what we'd see today. I understand that our supporters expected more from us but it's not that easy. Everybody fought for a good result and if it's 1-1 I don't think it's a bad result for us. Yes, the fans were disappointed but we have still one game ahead and I hope we will show the better level. I think we have enough chances to win the second game.

Of course we played the wrong way by letting Fiorentina keep the ball. It's very hard to be defending and chasing the ball all the time. All our players were kept very busy in defence so sometimes we didn't have enough energy to attack.

We didn't plan to give possession to our opponents because we knew it would be a full stadium. I thank our fans for supporting us so well and we wanted to give something to cheer them up. We knew we needed to play with aggression, but at the same time we had to think about defence as we all knew the price of conceding at home. That's why, perhaps, we acted too cautiously sometimes, and we were made to pay at the end.

Mohamed Salah is a good player, very fast and skillful. It's very interesting to play against such players.

Vincenzo Montella, Fiorentina coach
We conceded a very unlucky goal in the first half, and the players were a bit disappointed in the dressing room. But the right words were said during the break and we played much better in the second half. We had to muster all our strengths to avoid a defeat which looked undeserved.

I must give credit to Dynamo but Fiorentina still were the better side in my opinion. I can be proud of my team and the level at which we played. We played quality football and played our hearts out which gave us a positive result in Kyiv. That's down to our great work.
