Round of 16 first leg by numbers

• The fastest goal in UEFA Europa League history was scored by Sevilla FC's Vitolo in the holders' 3-1 win at Villarreal CF. The ball crossed the line after just 13.21 seconds, beating the previous record of 15.19 seconds set by AEK Athens FC's Ismael Blanco in the inaugural season of the competition on 5 November 2009.

• The Villarreal-Sevilla match was the sixth all-Spanish tie in the UEFA Europa League. There have only been four other ties between two clubs from the same country, including this week's all-Italian affair between ACF Fiorentina and AS Roma.

• Of the record five Italian teams through to the round of 16, only one registered a first-leg victory, SSC Napoli recovering from a goal down to defeat FC Dinamo Moskva 3-1 in Naples. It was the Russian club's first ever UEFA Europa League defeat, coming in their ninth match.

• All three of Napoli's goals were scored by Gonzalo Higuaín. It was the 37th hat-trick in the competition and a record-extending fifth by a Napoli player, following trebles by Edinson Cavani (two), Eduardo Vargas and Jonathan De Guzmán. No other club has registered more than three hat-tricks in the competition.

• FC Zenit, making their third appearance in the UEFA Europa League round of 16, maintained their perfect home record in the competition with their 2-0 win against Torino FC. It was the Russian club's ninth win out of nine at the Petrovski Stadium, just one shy of the competition record for successive home victories, held jointly by two-time winners Club Atlético de Madrid and two-time runners-up SL Benfica.

• Zenit's victory also brought them a fourth successive clean sheet in the competition, one short of the record set by Napoli in the last round.

• Portuguese defender Daniel Carriço made his 43rd UEFA Europa League outing in Sevilla's win at Villarreal and will equal the competition appearance record, currently held by Paraguayan striker Óscar Cardozo, if he plays in the second leg.

• Everton FC's Romelu Lukaku moved to joint sixth position in the UEFA Europa League's all-time goalscoring chart with his winning penalty against FC Dynamo Kyiv. It was his 12th goal in the competition and seventh of the current campaign, which places him one behind front-runner Alan of FC Salzburg.

• Rodrigo Palacio became the 19th scorer to reach double figures in the UEFA Europa League, his tenth goal of the competition opening the scoring in FC Internazionale Milano's 3-1 loss at VfL Wolfsburg.

• That defeat in Germany was Inter's first of this season's competition, which means that, with Dinamo Moskva also losing, Club Brugge KV, 2-1 winners at home to Beşiktaş JK, are the only surviving team from the group stage who remain unbeaten. Zenit and Roma, who joined in the knockout phase from the UEFA Champions League, are also undefeated after three matches.
