Perhaps the standout moment of the night came at El Madrigal, where Sevilla midfielder Vitolo set a new record for the fastest ever UEFA Europa League goal, opening the scoring after just 13.21 seconds. It was also a good night for Belgium, with Axel Witsel on target for Zenit, Kevin De Bruyne scoring twice for VfL Wolfsburg and Club Brugge KV seeing off Beşiktaş JK.
The second legs take place next Thursday, 19 March. The draw for the quarter-finals will take place in Nyon the following day.
