Midfielder Vitolo has set a new mark for the fastest ever UEFA Europa League goal by giving Sevilla FC the lead after 13.21 seconds against Villarreal CF.
Straight from the kick-off at El Madrigal, the ball was sent forward. Kevin Gameiro brought it down and lofted it over his marker perfectly for Vitolo to apply the finish. It shaved nearly two seconds off the previous record, set by AEK Athens FC's Ismael Blanco in the inaugural UEFA Europa League season.
That is postitively tardy compared to Roy Makaay's UEFA Champions League record. The Dutchman scored after 10.12 seconds for FC Bayern München against Real Madrid CF in the 2006/07 round of 16 second leg.
