Ventura vaunts historic Torino result

One of our players got a temperature just before the game and I didn't have the players I expected so there were a lot of changes at the last minute. We went behind to a lucky goal early on, but we kept calm and kept trying to play our game, and that led to the equaliser. Then they got two red cards – that changed the game totally and it made it impossible for København. They could never come back from that, and we believed in ourselves and achieved a confident victory.

It's a big result for Torino to progress to the knockout stage in the Europa League and I hope that it gives notice in Italy and in Europe that Torino, after being down for many years, are back among the best by achieving this historic result by going through from the group stage.

We equalised and once they got two players sent off, it opened up the game a lot. When you play with one less player than the other team – or in this case two – it's almost impossible to play anything like the game you would like to play.

We are very happy with how the group phase has turned out. In the beginning, it was a struggle. We had a lot of problems and low points, such as the loss at HJK Helsinki, but step by step we have improved and we are happy with how things have turned out.

Our main objective was just to go through, as group winners or runners-up. Unfortunately, Club Brugge scored in the last minute to take first place away from us but we are happy with what we have achieved.

The entire group stage has been ridiculous for us. We have seen ridiculous incidents in every match. Our mistakes – nobody else's. Today was another ridiculous experience. Our bench was full of young guys that have not even been away with the first team before. A lot of injuries during the days leading up to the game made the circumstances difficult for us.

The mistakes we made are not down to Torino, but down to us. Mikael Antonsson should just have let Josef Martínez go through instead of conceding a foul and getting a red card, because it wasn't necessary. We didn't need to win the game, we had nothing to play for, but it's not just that he was sent off – he will now be banned from the first European game of next season.

Nor should Mathias Jørgensen have committed the foul that resulted in a penalty. That irritates me because it destroys the game for the team and the team worked hard. We played well until we had two players sent off. Torino had no chances in the first 30 minutes and we dominated possession and created chances, but these red cards just ruin everything for all the other players. Torino barely crossed the halfway line the first 30 minutes.

Mikael Antonsson made a mistake, Mathias Jørgensen made a mistake and Thomas Delaney made a mistake. Experienced players shouldn't make mistakes like these.
