Trabzonspor AŞ have parted company with coach Vahid Halilhodžić by mutual consent in the wake of last week's 1-1 UEFA Europa League draw against KSC Lokeren OV.
The 62-year-old Bosnian coach has brought an end to his second spell as the club's coach, having briefly been in charge during the 2005/06 season. He took charge this summer, and his side had performed well in the UEFA Europa League, where they lie second in Group L, but failed to sparkle in the Turkish league, where they won just one of their first eight games – the Black Sea club's worst start to a season in 40 years.
Halilhodžić was not on the bench for Trabzonspor's 3-2 win against Konyaspor at the weekend, having told a Croatian newspaper: "Trabzon was a mistake. My departure has nothing to do with results. We could have been a top-three club if we had put two or three wins together. Mine and the president's visions did not match. We planned a project. It was to create a winning team. Of course, you need players for that. There was a disagreement on this issue, so I left."
Trabzonspor are expected to name former Fenerbahçe SK and Turkey coach Ersun Yanal as Halilhodžić's successor in the coming days.
