Majeed Waris scored his first in Europe this term as Trabzonspor AŞ recovered to deny KSC Lokeren OV a home victory in a 1-1 draw in UEFA Europa League Group L.

The hosts – who lost 2-0 at Trabzonspor last time out – needed just five minutes to break the deadlock in Belgium. Ayanda Patosi was thwarted by the visitors' custodian Fatih Öztürk from close range but was able to register at the second time of asking.

Eight minutes later, Öztürk was called into action again, rushing out to block Junior Dutra's strike with his feet. Kévin Constant led the response from the Turkish side but his left-footed effort from distance sailed over.

Lokeren squandered two glorious opportunities to double their lead three minutes before the break. Nill De Pauw, clean through on goal, was denied by Öztürk on the edge of his area, and Junior Dutra's goalbound follow up was blocked. The visitors hit back just before the interval, Waris tapping into the empty net after Lokeren goalkeeper Boubacar Barry parried Mustapha Yatabaré's powerful strike into his path.

As in the first period, Vahid Halilhodžić's side continued to try their luck from distance after the interval. Fatih Atik let fly but his effort swerved away from Barry's goal. Nine minutes later, the home custodian sprinted off his line to deny Yatabaré after Waris sent the forward clear with a headed through ball.

The visitors threatened to take the lead once again through Patosi but the South African's 73rd-minute strike was parried by Öztürk. However, Trabzonspor – yet to lose in four UEFA Europa League group stage away matches prior to kick-off – held on for another useful result on their travels.
