Last season's UEFA Europa League top scorer Jonatan Soriano helped FC Salzburg come from behind against FC Astra Giurgiu as the Austrian champions earned their first win in Group D.
On matchday one, Astra suffered their heaviest European loss to date – 5-1 against GNK Dinamo Zagreb – but the Romanian side looked eager to make amends as they made a lively start. Júnior Morais tested Salzburg goalkeeper Péter Gulácsi with a ninth-minute effort before the hosts took the lead on 15 minutes, Takayuki Seto finishing in style after a good work from Gabriel Enache.
Without a win in their last three European away trips, Salzburg might have had cause for concern, but they bounced back briskly, Christoph Leitgeb firing over the bar as the visitors looked for an immediate response.
Kevin Kampl duly levelled for Salzburg from close range in the 36th minute, and six minutes later Soriano grabbed his second in the competition this term, flicking the ball over Astra goalkeeper Silviu Lung.
It could easily have been 3-1 to Adi Hütter's side on 57 minutes as André Ramalho's goal-bound effort following a Salzburg corner was blocked on the line by team-mate Martin Hinteregger. However, the home side had chances too, and Gulácsi dived full length to make a timely interception as two Astra players at the back post threatened to steer Constantin Budescu's cross into the net.
