Composed Inter bide time against ten-man Dnipro

FC Internazionale Milano wasted no time in punishing Ruslan Rotan's red card as Danilo D'Ambrosio earned them the UEFA Europa League spoils against FC Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk.

Dnipro consigned FC Metalist Kharkiv to their worst home defeat in over five years on Saturday and looked set to pick up where they left off when Yevhen Konoplyanka tested Samir Handanovič inside 20 seconds. It was a false dawn, however. The first half was cagey, with Inter slowing the tempo and seeking to use guile to open up their opponents; Dnipro were more muscular, more direct. Chances were at a premium, however.

After the interval it opened up. Fredy Guarín squandered a fine chance after Hernanes's lovely dinked cross, then Denys Boyko produced a marvellous double save to deny the surging D'Ambrosio and Mauro Icardi. The Ukrainian hosts responded well, with Konoplyanka firing just wide, but when midfield enforcer Ruslan Rotan saw red they lost the initiative.

Inter soon took it, D'Ambrosio latching onto Artem Fedetskiy's clearance, dribbling towards goal and firing in the only goal of the Group F game.
