FC Basel 1893 have been ordered by the UEFA Control and Disciplinary Body to play their next two home matches in UEFA competition behind closed doors.

The first match applies to next Thursday's UEFA Europa League quarter-final first leg in Basel against Valencia CF. The sanction for the second game is deferred for a probationary period of two years. The club have also been fined €107,000.

Basel were facing charges for the setting-off and throwing of objects (Article 16(2) UEFA Disciplinary Regulations) and the improper conduct of the team (Article 15(4) Disciplinary Regulations) during their UEFA Europa League round of 16 second leg in Austria against FC Salzburg. The incidents involving Basel supporters resulted in the referee taking the players off the field during the first half before restarting the match.

The decision is open to appeal.
