Napoli excited as proud Swansea sign off

Things have started to get very interesting in the UEFA Europa League for SSC Napoli after they reached the round of 16 with a dramatic 3-1 victory over Swansea City AFC, who leave Europe with heads held high.

The Serie A side's reward for Thursday's late second-leg win is a tie with FC Porto, who progressed in even more dramatic fashion, with Lorenzo Insigne urging his team to go "as far as possible" in the competition. While Valon Behrami now expects the difficulty level to increase by the game, Swansea's Ben Davies and Jonathan De Guzmán took plenty of positives – and even more pride – out of their European adventure.

It was a crucial win. A lot of sides struggle in Europe – Lazio have gone out – and you have to work hard, but the important thing was that we remained united to the end and we won. We took the lead and then a lack of focus saw us concede, but we did well to remain united and we got an important result.

We picked up lots of points in the Champions League and were unfortunate to go out, but we always try to give it our best in Europe and to get as far as possible. Porto are a great side. We played them in the summer, but it was just a friendly and now we've got to beat them. First we've got Livorno and Roma [in Serie A] – we'll take things game by game, and then we'll think about Porto.

It was an important game against a great side who managed to cause us problems in the first half, maintaining a high tempo with great possession. We got our distances wrong at times in the first half but then in the second, thanks also to the advice of the coach, we changed our attitude and we managed to keep the ball and tried to attack them. Certainly we had to battle, but in the end we deserved to win, I think.

Now the competition starts to get very interesting. [We play] another team who are great in possession and have great individual talent. It's going to be a very, very difficult game but also interesting.

In the dressing room we're obviously disappointed we didn't come away with anything but we're also very proud of the performance. I think they came with a game plan to our place – to keep it tight – and then take us at home, and had we taken our chances at home, like they did here, then maybe it would have been a different story.

It's been a great experience for all of us. Obviously it's the first [European] campaign for most of us and it's something we've all enjoyed thoroughly and hopefully we can all play in this again some time. It's not going to be difficult at all [to lift ourselves]. We take a lot of pride and a lot of confidence after that performance.

Of course they have some great, great players and experience comes into it as well, but I think we showed a lot of heart and a lot of confidence playing against an experienced team – a big-name team in Europe. But I think if we score the goals, if we capitalise on our chances, it could have been a lot different. If you finish your chances, you will go through. Of course everyone's gutted after today.

After the first goal they scored, we basically woke up and started playing our football again. It was just very unlucky. I think we were dominating the game more or less but if you don't take your chances, you don't win the game. Looking back on both games, we created so many chances that we could have scored plenty of goals, but if you don't score, you don't win.
