Long-serving FC Porto goalkeeper Helton has agreed a one-year contract extension with the Portuguese champions.
The 35-year-old's previous deal was due to expire in the summer, but he will now stay with the Dragons until the end of the 2014/15 season. "I hope to make the most of this renewal and pay [Porto] back on the pitch with work, wins and titles," said Helton. "I'm very happy and proud to know that people still trust in me and believe in my competence. I feel at home."
The former CR Vasco da Gama player – who has made 299 appearances for Porto in all competitions – arrived at the Estádio do Dragão ahead of the 2005/06 season after three years with UD Leiria and has since won seven Liga titles, four Portuguese Cups and the 2011 UEFA Europa League.
Porto host Eintracht Frankfurt in the first leg of their UEFA Europa League round of 32 tie on 20 February. Before that, Paulo Fonseca's men visit SL Benfica, with whom they and Sporting Clube de Portugal are level at the top of the table, on 12 January in their next Liga fixture.
