Valencia pleased with job well done at Swansea

"We did our job," Valencia CF midfielder Oriol Romeu told UEFA.com after a 1-0 win at Swansea City AFC not only avenged their opening 3-0 home defeat by the same team but also secured first place in UEFA Europa League Group A. Swansea, however, still need a point at FC St Gallen on 12 December to qualify, though Jonathan De Guzmán and Neil Taylor found positives in the setback.

I wouldn't say we are under less pressure playing away from home. Today we played well, the game wasn't easy, but we did well and we did our job. It doesn't matter if you play home or away, we did our job and that is the main thing – we are happy with that. It was different [from the 3-0 home loss] because we had a sending-off then and it made it much more difficult for us.

We played very solidly from the first minute to the last tonight and we defended well with two lines of four, which were very, very solid. That helped us to go through and we are happy. We won't change our football or our style.

We have one more game and if we get a good result in St Gallen then we can look forward to the next round. We did very well in the second half, playing our football. In the first half we were a bit static in our movement up front and even our defending.

Of course, it was a loss that one of our goalscorers [Wilfried Bony] came off with an injury, but in the second half we tried to pick it up a bit more and had a couple of good chances. We had chances to get the equaliser, so we still have to look at the positives of the game and of course get a good result in St Gallen. This was our first loss in the group stage, we are capable of winning these games, we just have make sure we get to the next round.

We should have got something from the game in the second half. Valencia started well – they were really good today and showed how good a team they are. The result [away to Valencia] was a great one, but it was a little bit of a false result as well, as they were down to ten men early and we opened up the pitch. That's not to take anything away from that result, but ten men to 11 men is a lot different.

We didn't start well enough tonight, but we came into the game and we're disappointed not to take anything. Valencia are a good team, they have some good players who have been under pressure recently, and they have produced a good performance. I thought we deserved a draw, but we have to move on.

Valencia were the better team in the first half and dominated in midfield, not that they created that many chances. In the second half we took over and had three or four chances, but had one saved on the line and couple of others that were very close.

Maybe we will have to get that last point in Switzerland. I know in European competition you have to play until the last game and I knew from the beginning that it would be very difficult.
