FC Thun will look to reclaim second place in UEFA Europa League Group G from FC Dynamo Kyiv after their second visit to the Ukrainian capital ended up being less satisfactory than the first.

Previous meetings
• Dynamo powered to a 3-0 win when the sides met on matchday three, Andriy Yarmolenko, Dieumerci Mbokani and substitute Oleh Gusev on target in Kyiv. It matched the margin of Thun's worst ever defeat in UEFA competition, a 4-1 loss at Stoke City FC in August 2011.

• In their run to the 2005/06 UEFA Champions League group stage, Urs Schönenberger's Thun eliminated Leonid Buryak's Dynamo in the second qualifying round. The sides drew 2-2 in Kyiv before Tiago Bernardini's late goal handed Thun a 1-0 win in the return fixture in Berne.

• The teams for that meeting in Switzerland, at Berne's Wankdorf Stadium on 3 August 2005, were:
Thun: Jakupović, José Gonçalves, Miličević, Adriano (Tiago Bernardini 86), Gerber, Deumi, Aegerter, Lustrinelli (Gelson 90+2), Nelson Ferreira (Leandro Vieira 75), Pallas, Hodžić.
Dynamo: Shovkovskiy, Rodolfo, Cernat, Rotan (Belkevich 68), Shatskikh (Kleber 61), Gavrančić, Gusev, Nesmachniy, Yussuf, Rodrigo, Česnauskis (Rincón 56).

• Nelson Ferreira, Olexandr Shovkovskiy and Gusev are registered to play in this season's competition.

Match background
• Those meetings with Dynamo represent the sum total of Thun's experience of Ukrainian opposition.

• Dynamo have played seven games against Swiss sides, with the outcome reading W3 D2 L2 (W2 D2 L0 in Kyiv – W1 D0 L2 in Switzerland).

• Thun are competing in the UEFA Europa League group stage for the first time, having lost to Stoke in the play-offs two years ago. They memorably made it to the 2005/06 UEFA Champions League group stage, finishing third in their section to earn a transfer to the UEFA Cup round of 32, where they lost to Hamburger SV.

• Thun have won all four of their home games in Europe this season without conceding.

• Dynamo have not won in seven UEFA group stage away games (D4 L3) since a 4-1 win at FC BATE Borisov in the 2010/11 UEFA Europa League.

• This is Dynamo's third UEFA Europa League group stage campaign; they made it all the way to the quarter-finals in 2010/11 but failed to reach the last 32 the following season.

Team facts
• Dynamo forward Andriy Yarmolenko could make his 50th UEFA club competition appearance against Thun in Switzerland, having celebrated his 24th birthday the day before the sides' first meeting.

• Dynamo defender Aleksandar Dragovic knows Swiss football well, having spent two and a half years at FC Basel 1893 prior to joining his current side this summer.

• Thun goalkeeper Guillaume Faivre played alongside Dynamo's Ideye Brown during the latter's time in Switzerland as a Neuchâtel Xamax FC player.

Coach information
• Urs Fischer took charge of Thun in November 2012 following a long spell working with FC Zürich, where he was in charge of various youth teams before becoming assistant and then senior coach. The centre-back made a record 545 Swiss league appearances – over 300 of them for Zürich, where he played his first and last games. In between, he captained FC St Gallen and was capped four times by Switzerland.

• Oleh Blokhin has been coaching the club he graced as a player, Dynamo, since September 2012, stepping down as Ukraine coach for a second time after leading them out as co-hosts at UEFA EURO 2012. The European Footballer of the Year in 1975, Blokhin won eight Soviet titles and two European Cup Winners' Cups in a glorious spell at Dynamo from 1969 to 1988. He started coaching in Greece but returned home to help Ukraine reach the 2006 FIFA World Cup quarter-finals.
