Less than four months after his appointment, Ante Čačić has left NK Maribor by mutual consent in the wake of their 2-1 reverse at FC Koper on Saturday.

Despite setting the pace at the Slovene First League summit, a sequence of just one win from their previous six matches in all competitions has prompted a change in direction. "We have come to a mutual decision which means that Ante Čačić is no longer Maribor coach. We would like to thank him for his hard work and wish him the very best of luck for the future. We had to respond to a bad run of results," read a club statement.

Maribor travel to Wigan Athletic FC for their second UEFA Europa League Group D encounter on Thursday after opening with a 5-2 home defeat against FC Rubin Kazan.
