Beginner's luck for Fiorentina's Ryder Matos

On the field for less than a minute, Ryder Matos's first touch in an ACF Fiorentina shirt resulted in a goal, and he could not wait to get home to tell his family all about how he had helped the Viola to a 3-0 UEFA Europa League victory over FC Paços de Ferreira. A losing start in Group E, meanwhile, was a sign that the Portuguese side need to tighten up at the back, according to their midfielder Jean Michel Seri.

I'm delighted because this was my first game for Fiorentina; it was my debut, and I scored with my first touch. When the coach called me, it's only normal that I was a bit nervous, but as soon as I got on the field and scored, I settled down. This is what we all wanted – to win here to gain more confidence.

Fiorentina want to win in the Europa League like we do in Serie A; we want to go all the way. I dedicate my goal to my father and my family, who've always been close to me. I'll call them as soon as I get home. I live alone so I can't wait to talk to them.

It's always a pleasure to score, but the most important thing tonight were the three points. To start off this way was important. It's normal that we sit back a little during games and wait patiently, but when we're fresh, you can see the difference.

We did not start very well, then everything became a lot easier. Our strength is that we enjoy ourselves. We try to play the ball on the ground. I hope to score as many goals as possible. Now we need to relax and take it game by game.

It was a bit too much [to lose 3-0] and we're disappointed, but we'll learn from it. Fiorentina are a great side, but we've learned something and we've got to improve. I don't think we'll have any harder games in the group than this – Fiorentina are the strongest team in the group. We will take things game by game and see what that brings us.

It's really difficult for us to take [seven defeats in seven games], but let's not forget we've had a very tough schedule. We'll learn and we'll work hard and we hope things turn back our way, starting with Setúbal at home this weekend. We hope to win that.

Defensively we have work to do because we have lots of gaps at the back and we're conceding too many goals from set pieces, lacking concentration. We've got to work hard on the defence and we've got to be aggressive.
