FK Crvena zvezda confirmed on Tuesday morning that Slaviša Stojanović has been appointed as the club's new coach following last week's departure of Ricardo Sá Pinto.
Sá Pinto left Crvena zvezda having guided them to second in the Serbian Super League, 11 points adrift of champions FK Partizan. Stojanović arrives in the Portuguese's place for his first role since he stepped down as coach of Slovenia last December, having steered them to just three points from their first four FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Stojanović, who becomes Crvena zvezda's fourth coach in less than a year, spent his entire playing career in Slovenia, representing ND Slovan, NK Ljubljana and NK Celje. He started coaching at Slovan and went on to mastermind successive Prva Liga titles at the NK Domžale helm. Spells at Celje, the United Arab Emirates (assistant) and Slovenia followed.
Stojanović will now join up with Crvena zvezda at their summer training camp in Catez, Slovenia. His new employers will face either Iceland's ÍBV Vestmannaeyjar or HB Tórshavn of the Faroe Islands in the UEFA Europa League second qualifying round.
