The countdown to the 2013/14 UEFA Europa League gathers pace on Monday when 118 teams go into the draws for the first and second qualifying rounds, streamed live on UEFA.com from 13.00CET.
Rosenborg BK are among the pick of the bunch, having rubbed shoulders with Europe's elite in the group stage of the UEFA Champions League 11 times in the last 18 years. Another side yearning to rekindle past European romance are two-time UEFA Cup quarter-finalists PFC Levski Sofia, still licking their wounds after being pipped to the Bulgarian title by a single point. They finished bottom of their UEFA Europa League section in 2010/11.
Domestic rivals PFC CSKA Sofia add an illustrious flavour to the first qualifying round with Hristo Stoichkov – a European Champion Clubs' Cup winner with FC Barcelona in 1992 – at the helm. The Army Men also boast the best record of any Bulgarian club in UEFA competition, with two European Cup semi-finals and one appearance in the last four of the European Cup Winners' Cup to their name.
MŠK Žilina are bidding to make the group stage for the first time, while Hungarian First League runners-up Videoton FC have come closer to winning this competition than any other first qualifying round contestant. Under Ferenc Kovács, they beat Real Madrid CF 1-0 in the first leg of the 1985 final, before a 3-0 reverse in Szekesfehervar.
All 38 first qualifying round ties are played on 4 and 11 July with the reward for the winners a place in the second qualifying round on 18 and 25 July. The likes of FC Rubin Kazan, AC Sparta Praha and R. Standard de Liège lie in wait. IFK Göteborg, who belied their underdog status by lifting the UEFA Cup with Sven-Göran Eriksson in 1982 and 1987, are also in the 14.30CET second round draw, as are 1991 European champions FK Crvena zvezda.
Seven teams automatically enter this season's competition in the group stage, with a further 154 starting their campaigns in the qualifying rounds. The tournament concludes with the final at Juventus Stadium, Turin, on Wednesday 14 May.
