Lampard rounds off perfect week with new deal

Chelsea FC's all-time leading scorer Frank Lampard has put pen to paper on a one-year contract extension to stay at Stamford Bridge until summer 2014.

Lampard's winning goal in Saturday's 2-1 Premier League victory at Aston Villa FC took him to 203 for the club as he passed previous record holder Bobby Tambling. On Wednesday, in the absence of the injured John Terry, Lampard captained the Blues to a 2-1 triumph against SL Benfica in the UEFA Europa League final. Little more than 12 hours later, Chelsea confirmed that a deal had been struck to retain the England midfielder's services beyond the end of the current campaign.

"'I'm absolutely delighted," said Lampard, 34. "Everybody knows I always maintained the dream was to stay at Chelsea. We've been talking for ages and even though it went on for quite a period it was always amicable. The thought of helping the club to more success in the forthcoming years is all I ever wanted. I couldn't be happier."

Next season will be Lampard's 13th at Stamford Bridge. He has already racked up an impressive trophy haul in west London, picking up the UEFA Champions League, the UEFA Europa League, three Premier League titles, four FA Cups and two League Cups. In April he became only the third player to make 600 Chelsea appearances. He finished runner-up for both the FIFA World Player of the Year and FIFA Ballon d'Or awards in 2005.
