Scorer of the second goal in the 3-0 UEFA Europa League win against FC Internazionale Milano, Gylfi Sigurdsson told UEFA.com that Tottenham Hotspur FC are in the middle of a purple patch that he hopes they carry through to the end of the season. Tottenham were on the front foot from the off in their round of 16 first leg and while midfielder Sigurdsson feels a hard game awaits them next week at San Siro, Inter centre-back Cristian Chivu told UEFA.com his side's task was "almost impossible".

Gylfi Sigurdsson, Tottenham midfielder
It was fantastic. I think we started the game really well and obviously got the early goal from Gareth and then we got a bit of confidence from that and kicked on and probably controlled the game quite well. We were kind of looking for the fourth goal in the second half but it wasn't to be and thankfully we kept a clean sheet as well.

A scrappy goal against West Ham helped me a lot and gave me a little boost. Obviously we beat Arsenal the other day and it helped us today and the form the team is in is fantastic and hopefully we can continue to play the way we've been playing the last few weeks until the end of the season.

You always enjoy playing with top-class players and of course Gareth has been in unbelievable form this season. The squad has got so many good players – it's fantastic to be here.

We know they are really hard to play against at San Siro – if we get an away goal that would be great. We know it's going to be difficult but we know we're going to be ready for them.

Cristian Chivu, Inter defender
We didn't start well – after 20 minutes we were two down. It's quite difficult to play against a team that put [in that much] intensity and strength. We tried to score and we had our two chances – important chances. In the end we lost 3-0 and I think the better team won tonight.

When you score an away goal it's important. It's difficult now in this situation but there's still one more game to play and anything can happen, but it's very difficult for us to qualify. We have a week to prepare and we'll see but when you lose 3-0 it's almost impossible to get back. But it's 90 minutes, we're going to do our best to try to play better, to score three goals and [give ourselves] a chance.

Tottenham are a good team. Lately they've been playing very well. From the middle up to the strikers they have a very strong team and it's difficult to play against them; it's difficult to play in this stadium. We knew Tottenham were a good team, we tried to do our best but unfortunately it didn't go well for us tonight.
