Krul blow for Newcastle

Newcastle United FC manager Alan Pardew fears goalkeeper Tim Krul may be out of action for "a maximum of four or five weeks" after the 24-year-old sustained an ankle injury.

Goalkeeper Tim Krul is expected to miss both legs of Newcastle United FC's UEFA Europa League round of 16 meeting with FC Anji Makhachkala after suffering an ankle injury last week.

The five-times capped Dutch international hurt his ankle in a collision with Jonathan Cristaldo during Newcastle's 1-0 round of 32 second-leg win at FC Metalist Kharkiv, and manager Alan Pardew believes he could be sidelined for a month. "His ankle is still a little bit swollen," he said. "We think he will be out for a maximum of four or five weeks, but we are hoping for less than that."

Krul, 24, has played in 22 Premier League games this season in addition to four in the UEFA Europa League. With usual back-up goalkeeper Steve Harper also struggling with injury, third-choice Rob Elliot made his Premier League debut in last weekend's 4-2 victory against Southampton FC.
