Maiden victory the motivation for Marítimo

CS Marítimo will look to sign off from the UEFA Europa League with a first Group D victory, with Club Brugge KV also heading out of the competition after matchday six.

Group D permutations
• FC Girondins de Bordeaux are through and will win the group with a victory or a draw.

• Newcastle United FC are through and will win the group if they beat Bordeaux.

• Club Brugge and Marítimo are out.

Previous meetings
• Club Brugge won 2-0 when the sides met for the first time on matchday two, with Carlos Bacca breaking the deadlock before setting up Björn Vleminckx to complete the scoring. It was Club Brugge's first – and to date, only – Group D win.

• Club Brugge's seven European games against Portuguese sides have ended W4 D1 L2 (W3 D1 L0 at home – W1 D0 L2 in Portugal). In their most recent clashes prior to this season, they won 2-1 away and drew 1-1 at home against SC Braga in the 2011/12 UEFA Europa League group stage.

• Marítimo's only previous encounter with a Belgian side came in the 1993/94 UEFA Cup, where they lost 2-0 at R. Antwerp FC, bowing out of the first round following a 2-2 draw at home. Those were the club's first games in UEFA competition.

• Marítimo have not been outclassed in their first UEFA group stage campaign; they have conceded just five goals in Group D – an average of one per game – with Club Brugge the only side to have put more than one past them.

• Marítimo remain unbeaten in four European home games this season, a win and three draws, during which they have conceded only once.

• Club Brugge failed to score in both of their previous Group D away games, going down 4-0 at FC Girondins de Bordeaux (their heaviest away defeat in the UEFA Cup and UEFA Europa League) and 1-0 at Newcastle United FC.

Team facts
• This is Club Brugge's 150th UEFA Cup and UEFA Europa League game; their previous 149 ended W66 D32 L51. They are within three goals of conceding their 200th in the two competitions.

• A defensive midfielder, Marítimo coach Pedro Martins reached a career peak with a three-year spell at Sporting (1995–98), later representing Boavista FC and CD Santa Clara.  He moved into coaching in the lower leagues, replacing Mitchell van der Gaag at Marítimo in 2010 following a spell as the club's youth team boss.

• Juan Carlos Garrido took over as Club Brugge coach on 15 November, taking up the position left vacant following Georges Leekens' dismissal. Following several spells as the club's B-team coach, the Spaniard led Villarreal CF to a fourth-placed Liga finish and the semi-finals of the 2010/11 UEFA Europa League, where they lost out to eventual winners FC Porto.
