Handanovič hankering after Inter improvement

Goalkeeper Samir Handanovič insisted that FC Internazionale Milano "have to improve" after just about salvaging a 2-2 draw with FC Rubin Kazan that also left the visitors frustrated.

Goalkeeper Samir Handanovič said FC Internazionale Milano "have to improve" after they required Yuto Nagatomo's last-gasp leveller to earn a 2-2 draw with FC Rubin Kazan in Group H. The Nerazzurri have failed to win in all four of their outings at San Siro this term, but it was not only in the home ranks that frustration reigned, with the result leaving "a bitter taste" for Rubin's Italian defender Salvatore Bocchetti.

Samir Handanovič, Inter goalkeeper
After equalising the first time, we pushed hard to score a second but they punished us on the break with just a few minutes remaining. Fortunately, we scored again late on and I think the result is a fair one after what the two teams did on the pitch.

It's a pity because we conceded the second goal when we were playing better – we have to improve in that area because it's happened other times this season. I know we still haven't won at San Siro, but let's try again next time – we cannot do much more than that.

I have no particular tricks or secrets for saving penalties. Unfortunately, I was not quick enough on the rebound, and they were able to score anyway.

Marko Livaja, Inter forward
I scored one but unfortunately I missed another great opportunity in the second half. I'm very happy with my goal – every time I play, my objective is to score. We didn't win tonight, but I think it was a nice game anyway. Now we can just start thinking about the next one.

José Rondón, Rubin forward
I received a very good ball from [Roman] Eremenko, my first touch was good, it meant I could run at the defender and when I saw the goalkeeper I opted to place the ball low and it went in. We took the lead twice but unfortunately we didn't manage to keep the ball in the final minutes, allowing them to equalise in added time.

I haven't been able to train as much as I wanted with the team since joining because I've been on international duty a lot, but I'm adapting to my new team game after game. We are disappointed about their late goal, but I still think we got a good result tonight.

Salvatore Bocchetti, Rubin defender
We leave with a bitter taste in our mouths – that's normal after conceding a goal in the 92nd minute. However, we were facing a great team, so you should always expect something good to come from these kinds of players.

We created many problems for Inter and we deserve credit for that. We studied them really well, watching three of their games, and we knew that we could find space between their midfield and defence with first-time passes. We managed to trouble them several times with this tactic.

I played in midfield tonight but it's not the first time – I also did it in the Russian Super Cup, for example, and I feel comfortable in this role. I play wherever the coach wants me to.
