Olympique de Marseille launched an audacious late raid at Fenerbahçe SK as two goals in the closing minutes, the second coming deep into added time, earned a share of the Group C spoils.

The Turkish outfit were on course for their first win in six European home games after goals in either half from Caner Erkin and Alex. Mathieu Valbuena revived hope for the visitors, however, to set up a frenetic conclusion that reached a crescendo four minutes into injury time when André Ayew rose to head in following a corner.

The UEFA Europa League encounter also had a lively start, with Valbuena and Morgan Amalfitano posing a threat in tandem down the right. It felt like a goal was coming and it duly arrived for the hosts on 28 minutes when Caner played a textbook one-two with Hasan Ali Kaldırım before firing in.

There was never a dull moment in the first half and, as Fenerbahçe began to sit back, there was no shortage of intrigue in the second period either. André Ayew so nearly punished the Turkish side's cautiousness as he deflected a clever Loïc Rémy pass against the bar. It looked like Fener's night, and even more so when Alex doubled their advantage on 57 minutes, timing his run to meet Mehmet Topuz's cross with perfection.

Marseille sought a way back but looked to be swimming against a tide of 40,000 supporters before Valbuena conjured an unlikely reply. The OM juggernaut was rolling – in the end, Fenerbahçe just could not stop it.
