FC Internazionale Milano have completed the signing of Uruguayan international Álvaro Pereira from FC Porto, with the full-back agreeing terms on a four-year contract.
"I thank the club because Pereira was a player we really wanted," said Internazionale coach Andrea Stramaccioni. The Nerazzurri have paid a fee believed to be in the region of €10m for the 26-year-old, who arrives in Italy having made 72 Liga appearances for Porto since moving from CFR 1907 Cluj in 2009.
Pereira won the UEFA Europa League in 2011 as well as back-to-back Portuguese titles with the Dragons. He now teams up with recent recruits Walter Gargano and Antonio Cassano at Inter. Capped 41 times by his country, the left-sided Pereira also played a key role in Uruguay's 2011 Copa América triumph, scoring twice in the group stage.
Inter have one foot in the UEFA Europa League group stage, meanwhile, after a 2-0 victory at SC Vaslui of Romania in last Thursday's first leg of their play-off tie.
