Matavž cheerful after PSV's Trabzonspor win

PSV Eindhoven never looked back after Tim Matavž's early goal at Trabzonspor AŞ and the scorer said a positive approach was key to a 2-1 win though the Turkish side are not giving up.

Opening goalscorer Tim Matavž said PSV Eindhoven were rewarded for their positive approach after two early goals brought them a 2-1 UEFA Europa League round of 32 first-leg win at Trabzonspor AŞ, who are not giving up the tie yet.

Tim Matavž, PSV forward
We're winning 2-1 and we're winning after playing away. For me those are two reasons to celebrate. The reason why we won today was our approach from the very beginning, attacking right away. That paid off when we scored twice in the first 15 minutes. I hope we can play like we did today in the return game. My message to the fans for next week is quite simple: we will try to win that one too, giving everything we have got.

Ola Toivonen, PSV forward
In the first half we played really well. Everybody wanted the ball, to be part of the game. We played with a lot of courage and confidence, and I hope the crowd enjoyed watching it. The second half wasn't easy. It's good to fly home with an away win, but next week we'll still need the support of our loyal fans. This game was a big test for us to see how far we can go in the UEFA Europa League, but don't expect any predictions from me about how far PSV can make it in the tournament. We'll take each game as it comes.

Olcan Adın, Trabzonspor striker
Scoring on my European debut is obviously something I dreamed of, but the final score was more important. It's a pity my goal didn't make a difference. I really hoped we could give our fans a victory tonight, but now we'll have to focus on the return game. I still have high hopes when it comes to this, we can still pull it off.

Tolga Zengin, Trabzonspor goalkeeper
I'm looking back on a disappointing evening. We couldn't get into the sort of game we wanted to play, and with PSV finding scoring positions early on, and not wasting those openings, we were fighting a losing battle. We wanted to make good use of home advantage, but we couldn't. This is not a farewell to Europe yet though. In Eindhoven, we will do everything in our power to prolong our stay in the UEFA Europa League.
