Porto swoop for Lucho and Janko

Lucho González has rejoined FC Porto on a free transfer after agreeing a deal until summer 2014 and the Argentina midfielder will be joined at the Estádio do Dragão by Austria striker Marc Janko, a €3m capture from FC Twente.

Lucho has left Olympique de Marseille to sign a two-and-a-half-year contract with Porto, where he spent four glittering seasons after arriving from CA River Plate in 2005/06. The 31-year-old scored 31 goals in 111 Liga matches and captained the Dragons as they claimed four league titles and two Portuguese Cups. With Marseille, he later won a Ligue 1 championship in his first term, 2009/10, as well as two French League Cups.

After 15 goals in 87 Ligue 1 games, the player known as 'El Comandante' in his Porto pomp returns to help Vítor Pereira's team attempt to cut the five-point gap to Liga leaders SL Benfica and retain the UEFA Europa League. Any club wishing to prize him away from the Portuguese champions will have to trigger a €10m release clause.

Centre-forward Janko, meanwhile, has signed a three-and-a-half-year deal, which will cost interested rivals at least €20m to break. The 1.96m target man scored 24 goals in 45 Dutch Eredivisie outings after moving to Twente from FC Salzburg in summer 2010.

"It is a great honour for me to play for this club and I hope to win many trophies," said the 28-year-old, who missed out on UEFA Champions League involvement this season after Twente were beaten 5-3 on aggregate by Benfica in the play-offs. Pereira's charges host Manchester City FC in the first leg of their UEFA Europa League round of 32 tie on 16 February before travelling to England for the return six days later.
