Salzburg out to spoil Slovan's last stand

FC Salzburg are in sight of the last 32 but first must hold off ŠK Slovan Bratislava to defend second place in UEFA Europa League Group F from Paris Saint-Germain FC.

• The Austrian side's 2-0 win against PSG on matchday five means that they have a better head-to-head record than the French side so should the teams remain level on points after matchday six, it is Salzburg who will advance.

Previous meetings
• Salzburg won 3-0 when the teams met for the first time on matchday one. Leonardo, who struck in both legs of the third qualifying round tie against Slovan's domestic rivals FK Senica, proved the scourge of Slovak opposition once again with a well-placed header on the hour. Gonzalo Zárate's 76th-minute strike and a late Dušan Švento volley (90+5) completed the victory.

• Slovan's only previous meeting with Austrian opponents came in the 2007 UEFA Intertoto Cup when they met SK Rapid Wien in the second round. They went down 3-2 on aggregate, winning 1-0 at home after a 3-1 loss in Vienna.

• Salzburg have won all five of their games against Slovakian opposition without conceding a single goal. They beat Senica 1-0 at home and 3-0 away in this season's UEFA Europa League third qualifying round.

• Slovan's only two group stage goals this season have come between 31 and 45 minutes. They are the lowest-scoring side in the competition.

• Slovan are without a victory in six European games since winning 1-0 at home to AS Roma in the first leg of their UEFA Europa League play-off tie. Four of those six games have ended in defeat.

• The journey is a relatively modest one for a European tie: Salzburg is just over 300km from Bratislava. Bratislava and the Austrian capital, Vienna, are just over 50km apart.

• Vladimír Weiss led Slovakia to the 2010 FIFA World Cup finals but now combines his work with the national team with coaching Slovan. He is part of a footballing dynasty: his father, also Vladimír Weiss, played for Czechoslovakia, while his son, another Vladimír Weiss, is a Slovakian international. The Slovan coach represented both Czechoslovakia and Slovakia as a midfielder.

• Dutchman Ricardo Moniz is in charge at Salzburg, having stepped up from a role as skills coach to replace Huub Stevens, following his countryman's dismissal in April. Moniz's only previous front-line coaching experience came in a caretaker role at Hamburger SV, but he has worked as a specialist trainer at Feyenoord, Grasshopper-Club, PSV Eindhoven and Tottenham Hotspur FC.

• Salzburg winger Dušan Švento plays under Weiss for the Slovakia national team. He played domestic football in Slovakia with MFK Ružomberok (2003-05) before joining ŠK Slavia Praha (2005-09).
