Legia and PSV spar for top spot

With both teams already certain of a place in the round of 32, Legia Warszawa and PSV Eindhoven meet in Poland - the visitors safe in the knowledge a victory would guarantee them top spot in Group C.

Previous meetings
• A tremendous Dries Mertens strike after 21 minutes settled the sides' first meeting in PSV's favour on matchday one; Marcin Komorowski looked to have cleared the danger for Legia after shrewdly intercepting a through ball, but the Belgian international struck a splendidly instinctive strike from the left edge of the penalty area which whistled past Dušan Kuciak.

• PSV have won all seven of their games against Polish clubs, scoring 13 goals in the course of their three previous UEFA competition matches in Poland. They hit five in their only previous game in Warsaw, winning 5-1 at Gwardia Warszawa in the 1974/75 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup second round.

• Feyenoord denied Legia a place in the 1969/70 European Champion Clubs' Cup final, beating them 2-0 in Rotterdam following a 0-0 draw in Warsaw. Legia only reached one further semi-final, losing out to Manchester United FC in the 1990/91 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup.

• In Legia's only other tie against Dutch opponents, they beat FC Utrecht 7-2 on aggregate in a 2002/03 UEFA Cup first round tie.

• Legia are yet to lose a home game in the UEFA Europa League since the competition succeeded the UEFA Cup, winning three fixtures and drawing three. Their last European home defeat was 2-1 against FC Moskva in the 2008/09 UEFA Cup second qualifying round on 14 August 2008.

• PSV are on a seven-game unbeaten run in Europe - four wins and three draws - since a 4-1 loss at SL Benfica in last season's UEFA Europa League quarter-finals. That remains their only defeat in their last nine away games, with that run including six wins as well as two draws.

• Legia's Miroslav Radović started the week as the third highest scorer in the group stage with four goals, trailing Fulham FC's Andrew Johnson (with five) and the competition's six-goal top marksman, RSC Anderlecht's Matías Suárez. Like Suárez, Radović has had nine shots on target.

• All seven of Legia's Group C goals have come in the second half.

• PSV have a Polish goalkeeper, Przemysław Tytoń, with the 24-year-old having joined the club from Eredivisie rivals Roda JC in the summer. The former Górnik Łęczna man made his European debut against Legia.

• Another Pole, midfielder Tomasz Iwan - now retired - won two league titles with PSV while playing for the club from 1997 to 2001.

• PSV's Brazilian defender Marcelo joined the club from Wisła Kraków in 2010. He won the league title with the club in his first season in Poland, scoring the winner in a 1-0 victory against Legia in May 2009. It was a result that effectively secured the championship for the club. In total, he scored ten times in 49 league games for Wisła.

• Marcelo's coach at Wisła was Maciej Skorża, who is now in charge at Legia, the club where he took his first steps in management as a youth coach after a brief playing career as a defender. Skorża became a successful coach with Amica Wronki, Groclin Grodzisk Wielkopolski and Wisła Kraków, where he won two Polish league titles.

• Skorża faced Dutch opposition in the 2004/05 UEFA Cup group stage while in charge at Amica Wronki; his side lost 3-1 at home against AZ Alkmaar. Amica bowed out without picking up a point, finishing behind AZ, AJ Auxerre, Grazer AK and Rangers FC.

• PSV boss Fred Rutten spent his entire playing career as a defender with FC Twente (1979-92), moving on to the club's coaching staff, and taking charge from 1999 to 2001. He was then Guus Hiddink's assistant at PSV before a second spell at Twente and a season as FC Schalke 04 boss. He took sole command at PSV in 2009.
