FC Schalke 04 will be without Ralf Fährmann for Thursday's UEFA Europa League Group J trip to AEK Larnaca FC after the goalkeeper picked up a knee injury in domestic action.

The Schalke No1 sustained a ligament rupture in his knee as he brought down Dorge Kouemaha to concede a penalty and receive a red card in the Gelsenkirchen club's 2-1 home loss to 1. FC Kaiserslautern on Saturday. The 23-year-old is likely to be out for "several weeks" according to club doctor Dr Thorsten Rarreck, meaning he is also doubtful for the return game with Larnaca at the Arena AufSchalke on 3 November.

The Königsblauen currently sit top of Group J following a draw with FC Steaua Bucureşti and a win against Maccabi Haifa FC, coach Huub Stevens having replaced Ralf Rangnick ahead of matchday two.
