Slovan primed as PSG come calling

ŠK Slovan Bratislava may be mindful of what happened the last time a French side came to Slovakia as they meet Paris Saint-Germain FC in UEFA Europa League Group F.

Previous meetings
• The sides are meeting for the first time in UEFA club competition having never played opponents from their opposite numbers' home country before.

• A total of 15 games have been played between Slovakian and French outfits in UEFA club competition, with the Slovakian teams' record reading W2 D1 L12 (W2 D1 L5 at home). The aggregate score in those ties is 47-9 to the French clubs.

• The last French club to visit Slovakia were Olympique de Marseille, who won 7-0 at MŠK Žilina on 3 November 2010 to record the biggest away win in UEFA Champions League group stage history.

Match background
• Slovan lost both of their opening Group F games. They have been alternating wins and defeats in their last five European home fixtures and are due a victory against PSG if that pattern continues.

• PSG's 2-0 loss at Athletic Club on matchday two ended a run of three straight European wins this season. They have only won one of six UEFA Europa League away games since a 1-0 victory at Sevilla FC in their opening 2010/11 fixture.

• PSG are within two goals of their 100th in the UEFA Cup and UEFA Europa League. This is their 69th game in the two competitions, their first being a 4-0 victory against Heart of Midlothian FC on 19 September 1984.

• Slovan winger Filip Šebo played in France for Valenciennes FC from 2007 to 2010 following spells abroad with FK Austria Wien and Rangers FC. He featured in two league draws against PSG and a 4-1 French League Cup defeat in Paris.

• PSG left-back Siaka Tiéné and centre-back Milan Biševac played alongside Sebo at Valenciennes from 2008 to 2010.

• Vladimír Weiss led Slovakia to the 2010 FIFA World Cup finals but now combines his national-team work with coaching Slovan. He is part of a footballing dynasty: his father, also Vladimír Weiss, played for Czechoslovakia, while his son, another Vladimír Weiss, is a Slovakian international. The Slovan coach represented both Czechoslovakia and Slovakia as a midfielder.

• PSG coach since 2009, Antoine Kombouaré was a defender for FC Nantes, PSG, FC Sion and Aberdeen FC before returning to Paris to lead PSG's reserves. He got the top job at the Parc des Princes following spells at RC Strasbourg (2003–04) and Valenciennes (2005–09).
