A Luuk de Jong header that took a freak deflection in off Fulham FC goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer gave FC Twente a 1-1 UEFA Europa League Group K draw at Fulham FC and both players talked UEFA.com through the bizarre equaliser. Roberto Rosales, who provided the cross, reflected on moving forward from right-back to a wide attacking role as a replacement for Bryan Ruiz, transferred to Fulham on deadline day.

Mark Schwarzer, Fulham goalkeeper
We are a bit disappointed we didn't get more out of the game. We conceded against the run of play, we were a bit unlucky that the ball rebounded off the post, hit the back of my head and went in. Second half, we had the better chances but it wasn't meant to be. We didn't lose which is the main thing.

[About the goal] There's nothing you can do about it, you try and make a save, you do everything right other than get a touch on the ball to push it round the post. Unfortunately it hit the post and hit the back of my head. I have fantastic memories of playing in the UEFA Cup and Europa League, first with Middlesbrough and now with Fulham. I love playing in Europe. People downgrade the Europa League and say it is a second-rate European league but for a club like Fulham and for me in particular it's great to be part of any European league.

Clint Dempsey, Fulham midfielder
It's frustrating, we would like to have got three points out of tonight's game but we'll take one. You want as many points as you can to get us out of the group stage. [Twente] are a good team, confident on the ball if you give them time and space. But I thought we caused them problems, we had some good chances tonight, we were unlucky not to win. It's good to be in as many games as you can, it's good to be part of the Europa League and to be in the league we are in. So you want to make the most of it and play as many games as you can.

Luuk de Jong, Twente forward
[On whether he would claim the goal] It was me that scored! But I didn't expect it because someone touched it first, then it came off a head, at first I was looking to see if it was in but then it was in. We started well in the first half but then it was not so good and they scored. It was difficult but in the last ten or 15 minutes [of the first half], we had some good chances and also the goal. It was bad to have half-time, we wanted to continue! The second half was open, it was a good game overall. Definitely a good point.

We were 'searching' a little bit when Bryan left us [on deadline day]. In the last league game we played without a right winger and it was quite difficult. Now we played our normal formation like we played last year in the Champions League, when we played well. This suits us the best and we have to keep playing like this.

Roberto Rosales, Twente winger
It was a good start, to play an English team is difficult. If you take a chance it is good. We played well, and now we look to the next games. I had a very good game, I have played a few times [on the right wing], I'm used to playing at right-back but I have a new job now.
