Athletic Club midfielders Óscar de Marcos and Igor Gabilondo were thrilled to gain a second successive UEFA Europa League victory but warned the Leones that European success needed to be mirrored on the domestic front. Paris Saint-Germain FC coach Antoine Kombouaré, meanwhile, insisted his team would respond to their 2-0 Group F defeat at San Mamés.

Óscar de Marcos, Athletic midfielder
We did what our manager sent us out to do. We played a very good game; you can see proof of that on the scoreboard. European competition motivates everyone here, and you saw the San Mamés tonight – our fans like nights like these. Winning these first two games has left us in a very good position but this group phase is a long one, with games at home and away, so let's wait and see how things progress.

Tonight, PSG came here with two first-team players absent from their squad. We played as we like to in the first half which allowed us to close out the contest. Let's see now if we can translate this form in Europe into the league; that's where we have been struggling lately.

Igor Gabilondo, Athletic midfielder
It's important to start a tournament like this with two victories. We needed this win. We started out tonight playing the better football and the had a good feeling. The result was what we needed. From this point on we will look took qualify as quickly as possible. We feel good but what we are missing is a positive result in the Liga.

Our coach congratulated us as he does every day, to be honest. My goal came about from a ball to the far post which I managed to reach at a stretch. I didn't know immediately that it had gone in.

Antoine Kombouaré, PSG coach
It's just a defeat. We defended well tonight and we attacked but Athletic Club managed to score before and after those moments while we missed our chances. If someone manages to score against you early on in a game it is not crucial; what matters is the result. We will respond to this loss.

Christophe Jallet, PSG defender
This shows that everything is far from perfect in Paris. We still have a lot to do. We knew they would go for the throat from the onset; it was attack after attack. We did not manage to hold the ball and the first goal hurt us. It was better in the second half although we ended up with ten men [following Mohamed Sissoko's dismissal on 52 minutes]. Had we have started the first half the way we did the second, it would have been a different game.

Blaise Matuidi, PSG midfielder
There is disappointment because we wanted to extend our unbeaten run [ten matches since their first Ligue 1 game]. We will have to get over it quickly. We have a chance to make amends [at home against Olympique Lyonnais in Ligue 1 on Sunday] and focus our minds on something else. We were totally focused on Athletic but we were beaten by a good team with good players. The way we started the game did us a lot of harm.
